TEHRAN (IQNA) – God in Surah Al-Kawthar of the Holy Quran talks about a great blessing given to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Surah Al-Kawthar

Al-Kawthar is the 108thchapter of the Quran that has three verses and is in the 30th Juz.

It is Makki and the 15th Surah revealed to the Holy prophet (PBUH).

The first verse talks about Kawthar, a blessing given to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and hence the name of the Surah.

Kawthar means abundant blessing. It is also the name of a river in paradise. In this Surah, it refers to a blessing that God has given to the Prophet (PBUH).

There are different views as to what this blessing is, with some saying it refers to Islam, the Holy Quran, prophethood, large number of followers, etc.

Many Quran interpreters believe that it refers to the Prophet’s (PBUH) daughter, Hazrat Zahra (SA) because the Surah talks about those who called the Holy Prophet (PBUH) Abtar (without posterity) because he had no sons. God revealed this Surah in response to them.

All verses of this chapter address the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to give him encouragement in the face of difficulties and unbelievers’ sarcasm and mockery.

The Surah gives the good news to the Prophet (PBUH) about a blessing given to him, calling on him to praise and thank God for such a great and important blessing.

In the second verse, praying to the Lord and making sacrificial offering are mentioned as the way to thank God. “Therefore pray to your Lord and make a sacrifice.”

One point in this verse is the emphasis on the fact that saying prayers, making sacrifices, and other acts of worship are all for God, who has created all blessings.

This was said at a time when some people worshipped idols and fake gods and made sacrifices for them.

Verse 3 of Surah Al-Kawthar is about unsilvers insulting and mocking the Prophet (PBUH) and saying he is Abtar.

The verse says that the offender himself will soon become childless and have no descendants.
